New gynecologist this morning...

Since I was diagnosed with MRKH in 2000 when I was 14, I have only ever been to Specialists & Surgeons, never have I been to a “regular gynecologist.” I had a hysterectomy in November 2009, and now decided I should probably visit a “regular gynecologist” regularly, and also for when my husband and I start our surrogacy journey (hopefully next year?).

So I had an appointment with a new gynecologist this morning that was recommended by 2 co-workers. I spent 30 minutes filling out all the paperwork and when the nurse took me back, she asked me the basic question:
“When was your last menstrual cycle?”
I responded “Never.”
Which prompted “Really? Never? Wow…Why?”
I said “I have a condition called MRKH, and I had a hysterectomy in 2009.” That seemed to shut her up ;-)
When he came in, the first thing he said (before he even introduced himself) was “Well I’m glad you’re here.” I must have looked confused because he said “alive I mean….you really have been through a lot.”

I responded with “I hear that a lot.” Which I do since I practically carry in a box of paperwork to each new doctor I go with my past medical history and tests.

Then he said/asked “So you’re single?”
When I said I was married, he said “oh really?” like he was surprised someone would marry me! I was about to smack him, I mean really, contrary to popular belief a vagina is NOT the only thing men are interested in.

Then he kept suggesting things to make my life “better” like trying anal sex, or having surgery to lengthen my vagina and he kept suggesting adoption, etc.  I had to tell him twice that I am happy, and my husband is happy and satisfied, and I didn’t need to change anything or make anything “better”

I felt like saying “I didn’t ask you for advice on anything… I’m just here because my insurance states I need a gynecologist. Just look at my vagina and let’s get this over with!”

So frustrating….

  1. Oohh, the gynecologist didn't know anything about you and your husband, that's why he said those things. He probably didn't mean it. Anyway, your relationship with your husband is truly inspiring. You're one lucky girl to marry an even luckier man! Don't feel frustrated. Things happen for a reason. You met your man, right? :D

  2. Nooo! I hate new doctors and male gynaecologists! That's shitty. I feel your pain!
Also it seems a little unprofessional that he suggested anal. Fair enough if people enjoy it and want to try it. But there are risks involved!
